Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Aaron Kurcz struck out Northwest League All-Star Yazy Arbelo in the top of the ninth inning to notch his ninth save of the season, as the Boise Hawks won their third-straight game, topping the Yakima Bears, 4-3, before a sellout crowd of 3,664 fans at Memorial Stadium.

The win for the Hawks extended their win streak to three games - their first three-game win streak since July 19-21.

The Bears, the second half champs in the NWL East, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first off starter Eduardo Figueroa, as Michael Weber knocked in a run on an RBI fielders choice.

Boise would come back, taking the lead in the second on a two-run Chad Noble double, extending the lead with an RBI single by Cody Shields in the sixth and a Micah Gibbs RBI single in the eighth.

Weber would make it interesting in the ninth, hitting a two-out, two-run homer to cut the margin to 4-3. But Kurcz would come in and fired a 3-2 high fastball past Arbelo to close out the win.

Figueroa was outstanding, allowing just three hits and the unearned run to pick up the win. Gibbs was the lone Hawk player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.

Mike Freeman went 2-for-4 in the loss for the Bears.

Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m., as Eric Jokisch meets Brad Wilson.
