Cruz's bat, Roberts pitching push Dillas past Edinburg

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas right fielder Alberto Cruz couldn't be stopped by Edinburg Roadrunners pitchers as Dillas pitcher Ralph Roberts shut down Edinburg bats for a 10-2 victory on Sunday night in front of 2,163 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Roberts (2-2) went seven-and-a-third strong innings, allowing only one earned run and six hits while striking out six and walking only one in the effort. Edinburg starter Mike Reeves (2-2) got the loss, allowing all ten runs in four innings plus of work. Cruz went 4-4 with two homeruns and six RBIs in the effort.
Leadoff man Wilmer Pino gave Edinburg an early lead in the first with a double and run scored on a Wilson Batista RBI groundout. Amarillo responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning as both Daryl Jones and Cruz hit two-run homeruns for a 4-1 Dillas lead.
In the third, Cruz hit a two-out single, followed by a TJ Warren walk. In his first professional start, catcher Sam Palace slapped a double to the left-center field to score both runners for his first career hit and RBIs for a five-run lead. The Roadrunners got one run back in the fourth as Felix Molina lead off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error for a 6-2 deficit.
In the fourth, the Dillas again put runs on with two outs. Following an Adam De La Garza single, a Jones walk and a Stephen Douglas single to load the bases, Cruz hit a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall for the second Dillas grand slam of the season and his second homerun of the game to give Amarillo a 10-2 lead.
Roberts shut down the Roadrunners through the seventh, while Chris Ingoglia and Joseph Muro finished off the game in relief for a 10-2 Dillas win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 14-11, while the Roadrunners fall to 17-7. Monday, Amarillo will take on Edinburg for the final game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. Monday's game is free admission courtesy of Farm Bureau Insurance.
