San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - The Colts garnered their second-straight win over Rio Grande Valley Sunday night at Foster Field by using a five-run eighth en routed to a 10-8 victory. The win gives the Colts at least a split in the four-game series.

The Colts got on the board first in the first inning on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to designated hitter Jason Landreth. San Angelo added to their lead thanks to RBI singles by leftfielder Jason Crosland in the third, and second baseman Mark Ramos in the fourth. However, the Colts stranded six runners in the first four innings, which kept the White Wings within striking distance at 3-0.

Rio Grande would tie the game with a three-run fifth inning. Second baseman Jose Sanchez belted his third homer of the year, a two-run shot, to cut the San Angelo lead to 3-2. The homerun was Sanchez's second of the series. The White Wings then tied things up three batters later as leftfielder Domenic Di Ricco doubled in shortstop Yeurys Tejada from first base.

San Angelo bounced back in the bottom of the fifth with three runs of their own. Third baseman Landon Camp broke the tie with an RBI single to give the Colts the lead. Then with Camp at first and Crosland at third and one out, catcher Trey Carter lined out to third baseman Eric Gonzalez. On the play, Gonzalez tried to double up Camp at first, but threw the ball away allowing Crosland to score and sending Camp to second. Camp would then score on a single from centerfielder Ronnie Gaines to give the Colts a 6-3 lead.

But the White Wings would not give up as they scored two runs in the seventh on a two-run double by centerfielder Javis Diaz to cut the Colts' lead to one. Rio Grande then had the bases loaded with two out when Diaz tried to score on a wild pitch. However, Carter was able to retrieve the ball and flip it to reliever Matt Chutchian covering the plate who put the tag on Diaz to end the inning and maintain the Colts 6-5 lead.

Rio Grande had a chance to tie and take the lead in the eighth as they loaded the bases with one out. But a hard shot to second base by Tejada led to a 4-6-3 double play to get the Colts out of the inning.

San Angelo then salted the game away in the eighth as they put four runs on the board with a three-run homer by Landreth (5) and a solo shot by Crosland (8). The White Wings picked up three runs in the ninth on a wild pitch and RBI singles from catcher Kevin Griffin and Gonzalez to make the score 10-8. But with two out and a runner at second, closer Mike Hacker got first baseman Joel Roa to ground out to short to end the game.

Landreth led the way for the Colts by going 2-4 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored. Diaz went 2-4 with a double and two RBI to pace the White Wings. Chandler Barnard (1-1) got the win for the home team by going 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs and striking out seven. Andres Rosales (1-1) took the loss for Rio Grande after giving up six runs in five innings of work. Hacker picked up his fourth save for San Angelo. The Colts and White Wings will finish off their four-game series tomorrow beginning at 7:05. Ezequiel Astacio (3-2, 4.22 ERA) will go for San Angelo against Greg Conrad (0-1, 4.42 ERA) of the White Wings. Tomorrow is also Margarita Monday at Foster Field presented by MIX 106.1 FM.
