
Big Fourth Inning Lifts 'Runners Past Dillas

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners had an eight run fourth inning en route to a 15-11 victory over the Amarillo Dillas Saturday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Eric Montoya (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching seven innings and allowing five runs, two of which were earned, while scattering 13 hits and striking out one.
Wilmer Pino led off with a single in the first and then stole second base. After moving to third on a ground ball, Pino came into score on an RBI ground out by Wilson Batista giving the Roadrunners the 1-0 lead.
Edinburg (17-6) added a run in the top of the second after a throwing error allowed Osiel Flores to score making it 2-0.
The Dillas (13-11) cut the Roadrunners lead in half with an RBI single by Alberto Cruz that scored Daryl Jones from third making it a 2-1 ball game.
Pino highlighted an eight run top of the fourth with four RBIs on two hits and two stolen bases. The Roadrunners extended their lead to 10-1 while sending 13 hitters to the plate and knocking out Dillas starter Ryan Mitchell (2-1).
In the top of the fifth inning, Wilson Batista hit his second home run of the season extending the Roadrunners lead to 11-1.
The Roadrunners added to their lead in the top of the sixth with a three-run home run by Ambiorix Concepcion, his fourth of the season, making it 14-1.
Amarillo got a run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by Daryl Jones cutting Edinburg's lead 14-2.
A two-out error by the Roadrunners defense in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Dillas to get three unearned runs against Montoya making it 14-5.
Adam De La Garza hit a two-run home run off of Roadrunners reliever Robbie Nelson cutting the Roadrunners lead 14-7.
Edinburg added a run in the top of the ninth after an RBI single by Robert Matlock extending their lead to 15-7.
The Dillas added four runs against Nelson in the bottom of the ninth but Julio Castro came in and struck out the final two batters to pick up his fourth save of the season and giving Edinburg the 15-11 victory.
The Roadrunners and Dillas will play the third game of this four-game series Sunday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Mike Reeves (2-1) is expected to face Ralph Roberts (1-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
