Big Fourth Spells Doom

AMARILLO, TX - The Edinburg Roadrunners got an eight-run fourth inning, while the Amairllo Dillas batters couldn't recover as the Dillas fell to the Roadrunners 15-11 on Saturday night in front of 2,427 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Ryan Mitchell (2-1) got the loss, giving up nine runs in three-and-a-third innings. Roadrunners starter Eric Montoya (4-1) got the win, giving up only two earned runs in seven innings of work. Edinburg closer Julio Castro got his fourth save, striking out both batters he faced.

For the second night, Edinburg scored in the first inning as Wilmer Pino singled, stole second, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Wilson Batista groundout. In the second, the Roadrunners scored an unearned run, while the Dillas got on the board in the bottom half of the second inning. Daryl Jones led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a Stephen Douglas groundout and scored on an Alberto Cruz RBI single for a 2-1 deficit.

Edinburg broke the game wide open in the fourth with eight runs off five hits and an error for a nine-run Roadrunners lead. Wilson Batista hit a solo homer in the fifth for a ten-run lead, as the Dillas got back on the scoreboard with an RBI single from Jones in the bottom of the fifth for an 11-2 deficit.

The Roadrunners scored again in the sixth with an Ambiorix Concepcion three-run homerun, while Amarillo scored in the seventh. Carlos Figueroa hit a two-out double and scored on a Jones flyball that was dropped by Concepcion in right field. Douglas doubled to score Jones, while a Cruz single scored Douglas for a nine-run game. Adam De La Garza hit a two-run homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to seven at 14-7.

Edinburg scored an unearned run in the ninth, while the Dillas kept the late inning scoring going in the ninth. Jones led off after being hit by a pitch, followed by a Douglas walk. A Cruz RBI single scored Jones while a wild pitch scored Douglas. Following a TJ Warren walk, brand-new Dilla Jonathan Cisneros singled home Cruz while Warren scored on a De La Garza single for a 15-11 score. Castro came in and struck out Joaquin Rodriguez and Figueroa to end the game.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 13-11, while the Roadrunners improve to 17-6. Sunday, Amarillo will take on Edinburg for the third game of a four-game series at 6:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 5:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
