SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The Lake Erie Crushers saw their five game winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening at Boomers Stadium, as they fell to the Schaumburg Boomers, 11-4.

The loss for the Crushers (15-17) was their first since dropping an 18-17 decision in 13 innings last Saturday in Rockford, while the victory for the Boomers (20-13) snapped a brief two game slide.

The Boomers offense, which was held in check over 12 innings on Friday night, would not be denied a second night in row, as they scored 11 times on 14 hits, and put up crooked numbers in four innings.

Lake Erie jumped on the board first, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first. Anderson Hidalgo reached on a one out single and Andrew Davis followed with a walk. Daniel Bowman then stepped in and rocked a two-out double to the gap in right center to score both Hidalgo and Davis to give the Crushers their only lead of the night.

Schaumburg responded an inning and a half later, with a trio of runs in the bottom of the second. Steve McQuail and Brian McConkey started the inning with back-to-back singles and both scored on Sean Mahley's triple. Mahley scored the go ahead run shortly thereafter on Mike Valadez's groundout.

The Boomers added another in the third on McQuail's RBI single, and the Crushers brought themselves within a run in the fifth, after Russ Moldenhauer brought Hidalgo home on a sacrifice fly, but that was as close as the Crushers would get the rest of the night.

Schaumburg responded in the home half of the fifth inning with a trio of runs to pull away. McQuail's third hit of the night, was a towering two-run shot, his eighth of the year to give the Boomers a 6-3 lead, and they added one more in the sixth on Mahley's RBI single.

The Boomers weren't done, as they plated two more in the sixth inning on a two-out single from Chad Mozingo to score Mike Demperio and Gerard Hall. Lake Erie plated their final run in the top of the seventh on Moldenhauer's two-out RBI single, but the Boomers came right back with two more in the bottom of the inning on a single from Demperio.

In his professional debut, former Keystone High School star Kyle Shaw (0-1) took the loss for the Crushers, allowing six runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings of action while fanning four in the process. Schaumburg's Mike Giovenco (3-3) scored the victory, after surrendering four runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings of work.

For the second night in a row, six batters hit safely for the Crushers, and three led the way with two hits. Hidalgo went 2-for-3 on the night and reached three times, while Davis went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, and Bowman went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.

The Crushers will finish their three game series against the Schaumburg Boomers at Boomers Stadium on Sunday evening. The Crushers will start left hander Dave Middendorf (4-2, 2.70) and the Boomers will start lefty Danny Jimenez (1-3, 4.17). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
