Rockford Aviators News Release
CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, had plenty of chances but couldn't get the big hit in a 3-2 loss at Windy City Saturday night.
Rockford had runners at second and third with one out in the first inning and had the bases loaded with no one out in the eighth, but failed to score either time.
Windy City got on the board first thanks to a Jeff Harkensee RBI single in the bottom of the second inning.
The ThunderBolts made it 2-0 on a Ryan Soares RBI single in the third inning.
The Aviators got both of their runs in the fourth inning. Michael Hur and Matt Greener led off with singles. Kenny Bryant walked to load the bases. Tyler Smith then picked up his first RBI as an Aviator via a bases-loaded walk that brought home Hur. Eric Bainer then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Greener and tie the game at 2.
Windy City scored on a Doug Joyce RBI groundout in the fifth to plate Mike Torres, who doubled and stole third earlier in the inning. The run made it 3-2 Windy City, the eventual final.
Rockford got a quality start from Derrick Stultz, who went six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out one. Stultz took the loss to make his record 0-1 on the year.
Windy City's starter Travis Tingle went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits, walked three and struck out two. Michael Click pitched the ninth and picked up his fifth save.
Rockford and Windy City will finish the series tomorrow at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood with the first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Fans can listen to the game over the air on 100.5 NTA-FM or online at www.rockfordaviators.com.
