Last time out...

Matt Dillon was outstanding in his professional debut as he struck out 10 batters over five shutout innings and only allowed one hit but he Slammers fell to the Grizzlies by a final score of 3-1 on Friday night at Silver Cross Field. Joliet took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Marquis Riley sacrifice fly to drive in Kyle Maunus. But the Slammers would manage only three hits in the game and the Grizzlies rallied against Joliet's bullpen in the seventh and eighth. They tied the game with an unearned run in the seventh against Jonathan Gonzalez. Then a Jet Butler RBI single in the eighth off Chase Doremus gave them the lead for good. They would tack on one more for some insurance and the Slammers were unable to comeback in the game. JaVaun West went seven innings, giving up only the one run and Zac Treece picked up the same for the Grizzlies as Joliet dropped their second straight.

For Starters...

Evan Anundsen is coming off a rough start against the Traverse City Beach Bums on June 15 where he gave up five runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings as the Slammers lost 6-2. The 25-year old from Littleton, Colorado was a fourth round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2006 draft out of Columbine High School. He spent the past seven seasons pitching in the Milwaukee organization and started 24 games for the Double-A Huntsville Stars in 2012. Anundsen's best season as a professional came in 2009 when he posted a 2.69 ERA in 23 starts for the High Single-A Brevard County Manatees.

A new low...

The Slammers are a season worst seven games under .500 and a season high 8.5 games out of first place in the West Division.

Below average...

Of players who have played in at least 13 games, the Slammers only have three players hitting over .250. Jerod Yakubik (13 games) leads the Slammers with a .311 batting average. Michael Wing (.269 over 29 games) and Marquis Riley (.262 over 23 games) are the other two players hitting over .250.

OPS...

The Slammers are last in the Frontier League with a team OPS (On Base plus Slugging Percentage) of .628.

Speaking of Gateway...

Manager Mike Breyman has a long history with Gateway, having played with the Grizzlies for five seasons and coached there as well. The Slammers have a number of ex-Grizzlies on their team, including starting pitcher Brett Zawacki, relief pitcher Jonathan Gonzalez and outfielder/first baseman Jerod Yakubik.

Holding on...

The Slammers have posted an impressive 10-2 record when leading after six innings this season. However they are 2-17 when tied are trailing after six.

High five!

The Slammers continue to dominate when scoring five or more runs as they have a 9-1 record in that situation. They are 3-18 when scoring fewer than five runs.

Hits matter...

The Slammers are 10-2 when they out-hit the opponent. But they are 1-17 when they get out-hit.

Where are the runs?

The Slammers have scored only 110 runs this season, the fewest in the Frontier League.

Slammers' pitching has struck out 247 batters so far this season; second most in the Frontier League.

The Slammers sold the contract of INF Matt Mercurio to the Kansas City Royals yesterday.
