CornBelters Drop Middle Game of Series to Beach Bums

NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, dropped the middle game of their three-game homestand to the Traverse City Beach Bums 9-3 on Saturday night at the Corn Crib. The CornBelters conclude the brief home stand with a 6 p.m. Sunday rematch with the Beach Bums.

The Beach Bums took advantage of two walks and an error in the first inning to load the bases, which were cleared with two outs by Zach Kometani with a long grand slam home run to the left field lawn. The Beach Bums added three more runs in the third with two more walks and an error to boost their advantage to 7-0.

The CornBelters broke through in the third inning by loading the bases and getting RBIs from Matt Wright, Pat McKenna and Mike Mobbs to cut the deficit to 7-3 going to the fourth inning.

Traverse City added their first two earned runs of the game in the fourth inning as a lead-off walk came home on a two-run homer just over the right field fence by Jose Vargas to extend the lead to 9-3.

Ross Davis (2-3) worked four innings and took the loss while Traverse City starter Johnny Omahen (2-3) earned the win.
