Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Kalamazoo, MI - So much for any thought that the Lake Erie Crushers couldn't beat the Kings in Kalamazoo. For the second consecutive night, the Crushers bashed the East Division-leading Kings as they won Tuesday's matchup 19-5 to take two out of three in the series. In the last two games, the Crushers outscored the Kings 32-6.

As with the game on Monday night, the Crushers started early as they scored in the first on a solo homer by Drew Saylor. After the Kings tied the game in the second, Andrew Davis blasted a home run over the 400-foot sign in center field to put the Crushers up 2-1 after three innings. The Crushers would score four times in the fifth inning to knock out Kalamazoo starter Joe DiPietro. Saylor hit a sacrifice fly and Davis added an RBI single to give Lake Erie a 4-1 lead. An error by Kalamazoo shortstop Kyle Higgins would add two more runs to put the Crushers ahead 6-1 after five innings.

Meanwhile, Lake Erie starter Paul Fagan cruised to his fifth win of the season as he allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings. "He did a great job for us and proved that he truly is a big game pitcher," said Crusher manager John Massarelli afterwards.

Lake Erie would continue the onslaught in the seventh inning as they scored six runs off of Kalamazoo. Wayne Bond hit a two-run triple and Arden McWilliams added an RBI double as part of that hit parade. The Crushers would also score seven times in the top of the ninth as Davis delivered a two-run double and McWilliams would also single home another run to highlight the offensive attack for the Crushers.

The Crushers continue their road trip on Wednesday night as they'll open a three game series in Florence against the Freedom. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
