Florence Y'alls News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The first two batters for the Traverse City Beach Bums were put on with walks as the tempo was set early in an 11-3 win over the Florence Freedom Tuesday night.
Both walks allowed by Baron Short came in to score as the Beach Bums went on to put up three runs in each of the first three innings. Short (1-2) was relieved by Carlos De La Rosa after the starter went 1.1 innings as he walked three and allowed two hits in the loss.
The Freedom put up two runs in the third when Billy Mottram doubled home a pair with a shot to center. That made the game 6-2, but with three more runs in the third the Bums put it away for good taking a 9-2 lead.
Mottram was the only one to drive in a run as he knocked home Florence's third in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to left.
The star of the game offensively for the Beach Bums was Mike Epping. The veteran from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma went 4-5 and drove in five RBI.
Shawn Joy was not perfect, but he didn't have to be as he picked up his first win of the season to improve to 1-0. The left-hander went the necessary five innings and allowed all three runs on six hits.
Florence was held to just four runs in the final two games of the series after scoring nine in the opener. The Beach Bums took the series 2-1 and the six game road trip for the Freedom finished at 1-5. Prior to this trip, Florence was 7-1 on the road.
The Freedom (16-14) travel back to Florence for a five game homestand at Champion Window Field starting Wednesday night against the Lake Erie Crushers (17-13). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Freedom box office at (859) 594-HITS or visit FlorenceFreedom.com.
