Evansville Otters News Release

Rockford, IL - The Otters fell to 1-13 on the road with a 10-5 defeat to the Rockford Riverhawks Monday night at Road Ranger Stadium.

The 'Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, and never led by less than three runs the rest of the way. Jason James paced the attack, going 5-for-5 and setting a new franchise record with a hit in his 20th straight game. James is batting .537 over the streak.

Kevin Mackey (2-for-2, 2B, 2BB, 2RBI) hit a two a double in the sixth inning to draw the Otters to within 6-3. The 'Hawks answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Todd Martin, Ross McCoy, and Matt Mazurek.

Otter's starter John Ducey (1-3) was chased after recording one out in the inning. Ducey allowed nine earned runs in 5.1 innings. 'Hawks starter Jay Monti (3-3) picked up the win, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs (one earned).

Jeremy Strack, in his first start in more than two weeks after injuring his hamstring, may have been robbed of a home run in the eighth inning by the umpires. Strack hit a ball to the opposite field that flew over the right field foul pole, appearing from the press box to hook inside. Strack was so convinced, he continued to round the bases and touched home even after both umpires ruled it foul.

The Otters (8-21) will look to avoid the sweep Tuesday at 7:05pm CDT.
