River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, MO - The Rascals held on for a 10-8 victory over Windy City Tuesday afternoon at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The ThunderBolts plated four runs in the ninth, but River City slammed the door to complete the three game sweep.
Windy City (17-14) made it interesting in the ninth, scoring three runs off Tony Kirbis. Damian Walcott was hit by a pitch and Gilberto Mejia walked with one out. Vinnie Scarduzio hit a ground rule double to left field and Tyler Farrar singled to make it 10-6 with runners at first and third. J.T. Restko hit a groundball up the middle that Jorge Gutierrez flipped to second for the out and JoJo Batten's throw to first went into the stands. Another run scored and Restko advanced to second base with now two outs. Bryan Cook hit a bouncing ball to second that Batten mishandled for his second error of the inning.
Josh Lowey took over for Kirbis after the Batten error, allowing a single to Nate Hall to make it 10-8 with the tying runs on base. Lowey slammed the door, striking out Guillermo Martinez looking to earn his third save.
River City (20-10) played from behind early and took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Chris Colton was hit by a Stephen Flake pitch and would score from first base on a throwing error by catcher, Dan Jordan, who was trying to pick off Colton. Scott Houin made it 3-2 Rascals with a two run RBI single to center later in the frame.
Chris Ingoglia (4-2) allowed two first inning runs, but settled down for his fourth win. The Bolts did tie the game at three on a Bryan Cook solo home run in the sixth, but plated three in the bottom half to make a winner out of Ingoglia. The southpaw went seven innings allowing the three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Rascals need all the insurance runs late, combining for four runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Scott Robinson singled home Houin in the eighth and would score on a Colton single himself. Joe Billick made it 10-4 with his third hit, an RBI single to center field off Billy Petrick.
Matt Jernstad (2-1) was tagged with the loss, surrending three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of relief.
Flake lasted the first 3.2 innings for Windy City, allowing three runs on three hits and six walks.
Houin finished 3-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and three knocked in. Billick also had three hits for the Rascals.
River City will enjoy an off day tomorrow before starting a quick two game series against the Grizzlies on Thursday. Tyler Musselwhite (3-2) will oppose Collin Brennan (0-0) on the bump. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, IL.
