May 24, 2022 - Frontier League (FL)
New York Boulders News Release

The Lake Erie Crushers got a combined three-hitter from starter Joseph Sgambelluri and reliever Merrick Crouse and handed the visiting New York Boulders a 7-0 defeat on Tuesday night at Crushers Stadium in Avon, OH.

Sgambelluri went the first six innings and allowed only two hits - singles in the fourth inning by Jake MacKenzie and two frames later by Tucker Nathans, while walking three and striking out seven. Crouse came on and tossed one-hit ball over the final three innings, allowing just a seventh inning single by MacKenzie, the Boulder shortstop's second hit of the night.

Crouse walked one and struck out two.

Lake Erie scored three times in the second inning on RBI singles by Kokko Figueiredo and Jack Harris and a run-scoring double from Jackson Valera.

They extended their lead to 7-0 by plating four runs in the fourth inning. Bryant Flete forced a run home when he drew a bases loaded walk, then, still with the bases full, Ermindo Escobar was hit by a pitch. Jarrod Watkins then lashed a two-run double to cap the evening's scoring.

Sgambelluri improved to 2-1 on the season with the win, while Crouse notched his first save.

Dan Wirchansky started and was tagged with the loss for New York. It was his first decision of the season.
