AVON, Ohio -- The Joliet Slammers scored early and often at All Pro Freight Stadium on Sunday evening, and took the series finale with the Lake Erie Crushers, by the final score of 9-5.

For Lake Erie (6-9) the loss dropped their record to 4-5 at home this season, while the victory for the Slammers (6-9) gave them the series victory.

The Slammers got out to a hot start, scoring three times on four hits in the top of the first inning. David Christensen drove in the first two on his first homerun of the season, and Michael Wing followed with a double. Wing eventually came around to score later in the inning on an errant throw from catcher Emmanuel Quiles.

Lake Erie responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Kevin Berard was hit by a pitch, stole second base, made his way to third on a wild pitch and scored on Russ Moldenhauer's groundout. Andrew Davis followed with a single, advanced to third on Daniel Bowman's double, and scored on Anderson Hidalgo's groundout.

Joliet came right back with a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run double from Grant DeBruin, and added another run in the third inning when Javan Williams scored as Nate Wilder reached on Devyn Rivera's two-out throwing error.

The Slammers took their largest lead of the game, in the top of the fourth inning when Kyle Maunus plated Wing on a run scoring single.

The Crushers plated three runs over the next two innings to get back within striking distance. Gauntlett Eldemire belted a two-out RBI single in the fourth to bring the Crushers within four (7-3), and they added two more in the fifth inning on a base hit from Anderson Hidalgo.

The Crushers had their best chance to tie the game in the last of the sixth inning. They had the bases loaded and one out, with Moldenhauer and Davis coming up, but Moldenhauer went down swinging and Davis popped out to end the inning.

Joliet added single runs in the seventh, and eighth innings to pull away.

Matt Rein (1-2) suffered the loss for the Crushers, after surrendering five runs, three earned on seven hits over two innings of action. Joliet's Corey Kimes (2-1) scored the victory, after allowing five runs, four earned on eight hits over five innings of action.

Davis and Bowman paced the Crushers offensively. Davis let the charge with three hits on the night, going 3-for-4, and Bowman hit safely twice, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and Hidalgo drove in three of Lake Erie's five runs.

The Crushers are off on Monday, but will begin a three game series against the Traverse City Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday evening. The Crushers will start right hander Trevor Longfellow (2-1, 3.93) and the Beach Bums will start right hander Scott Dunn (2-0, 1.80). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
