Last time out

Jacob Sanchez went eight dominant innings, striking out 10 for the second consecutive outing, and the Joliet Slammers defeated the Lake Erie Crushers by a score of 3-1 in 10 innings. Lake Erie took the lead first when they pushed across a run in the third on a RBI double from Gauntlett Eldemire. It would take the Slammers until the eighth inning but they would rally to tie the game on a RBI single from Grant DeBruin. Then in extras, the Lake Erie pitching staff unraveled, walking a combined four Slammers in the 10th inning, including a free pass to David Christensen that drove in the go-ahead run for the Slammers. Michael Wing would add a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-1. Chase Doremus tossed a scoreless inning to pick up the victory while Justin Erasmus shut the door in the ninth for his fourth save of the season.

For Starters...

Corey Kimes is coming off a tough luck loss on May 29 against the Washington Wild Things. He went six and a third innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out four in a 3-0 defeat for Joliet. The 23 year-old Kimes, a former star for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, brings an undefeated record in affiliated ball to Joliet. The Ottawa, IL native went 5-0 in 2012 between the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League and the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League. In two seasons of affiliated baseball, Kimes has posted an impressive 3.25 ERA in 22 appearances including six starts. He was an 18th round selection of the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB draft.
