FLORENCE, KY. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, got back in the win column on Friday night, with a 5-4 win over the Florence Freedom. The win snapped the Crushers five game losing streak.

The Freedom grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning against Lake Erie starter Micah Beyer (1-1). An RBI single by Ricky Ramirez Jr. scored Caleb Lopes to start things.

The Crushers took the lead in the fifth when Aaron Hill hit a towering two-run home run. His second home run of the season gave Lake Erie a 2-1 lead.

Florence even things up in the home half of the inning when Xavier Turner led off with a home run.

The big inning for the Crushers came in the seventh when Bryan DeLaRosa led off with a double. A bunt single by Dalton Wheat put runners on the corners before a Zach Racusin double gave the Crushers a 3-2 lead. Doug Trimble delivered the big blow with a two-run double and the Crushers led 5-2.

Both Trimble and Racusin finished with two hits apiece. Eight players had at least one hit for the Crushers.

Florence starter Chuck Weaver (3-4) lasted 6.1 innings. He surrendered five runs on eight hits while striking out 13 batters. The Crushers struck out a total of 18 times in the game.

Kent Hasler and Seth Lucio recorded scoreless innings out of the bullpen in relief of Beyer who went six innings while allowing just three hits in the win.

Florence mounted a rally in the ninth against closer Logan Lombana. With two on and two outs, Austin Wobrock doubled to cut the Lake Erie lead down to one. The Freedom brought in pinch hitter Jimmy Heck but Lombana struck him out to preserve the win. He also picked up his sixth save.

Lake Erie (37-33) moved to within three games of the Joliet Slammers with the win. Florence drops to 35-35 with the loss.

Game two comes tomorrow night at 6:05 PM. Justin Sinibaldi (0-2) gets the ball for Lake Erie while Tyler Gibson (3-2) goes for Florence.
