Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things (39-31) bounced back by taking game one of the three-game series with the River City Rascals (37-34) by a score of 1-0. After another quality outing by starting pitcher Thomas Dorminy (8-4) the Wild Things secured the victory on an walk-off single by third baseman Mike Hill.
The first seven innings of the game saw a pitching duel between Dorminy and Rascals starter Justin Garcia (1-0). Both pitchers tossed seven innings with Dorminy only letting up two hits, walking four and striking out six.
Similarly, Garcia let up three hits, walked two and struck out three over his seven innings.
Davis Adkins (4-4) took the mound in relief in the eighth inning and recorded the first two outs before recently-activated pitcher Jake Eaton (1-0) came on to the punch the last batter of the inning out.
Eaton also pitched in the ninth and picked up the win, retiring all four batters he faced over his 1.1 inning of work in his 2018 debut.
In the bottom of the ninth the Wild Things went to work with left fielder Roman Collins leading off. Collins would eventually walk and bring up first baseman Reydel Medina. Medina grounded out and the Rascals then intentionally walked right fielder Hector Roa. With two runners on and only one out, Hill stepped to the plate and delivered the final hit of the night that sent Collins home and secured the victory.
The Wild Things look to take the series from the Rascals in game two of the series tomorrow. Right hander Levi MaVorhis is on the mound for Washington opposing Josh Kimborowicz for River City. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
