Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Crestwood, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners were shut out by the Windy City ThunderBolts 3-0 on Friday night at Standard Bank Stadium, breaking a four-game win streak despite a sound start on the mound from Steven Ridings.

Ridings (7-5) was perfect through the first six frames except for a streak of four straight baserunners in the bottom of the third inning which plated the game's first run. Terrance Robertson reached on a one-out single and stole second base before Joe Becht walked. Robertson was thrown out at the plate by Joe Duncan on a single by Omar Obregon for the second out, but Tim Zier's RBI single put Windy City up 1-0.

The Miners' bats never got going against starter Eddie Avila (2-5) for Windy City, as he threw six shutout innings with four hits allowed and four walks, striking out 11 batters. The ThunderBolts added on two runs in the seventh inning on RBI hits by Blair Beck and Ronnie Healy for the final 3-0 margin. Ridings ended up pitching six and one-third innings, allowing six scattered hits and three runs with one walk and six strikeouts for the quality start, but the Miners were blanked for the second straight game against Windy City overall, suffering their eighth shutout loss of the season.

The Miners will seek a series-evening victory on Saturday night, August 4th, at 6:05 p.m. back at Standard Bank Stadium.
