Crunch Roll Past Whale 4-0

Syracuse, NY- Cedrick Desjardins and the Syracuse Crunch recorded their second-consecutive shutout defeating the Connecticut Whale 4-0 today at the War Memorial.

Desjardins started for the second-straight day after recording a shutout yesterday and stopped all 29 shots he faced to help extend the team's win streak to a season-high seven games.

The Crunch lead the Eastern Conference with 72 points (33-14-2-4). Syracuse is 13-8-2-2 at the War Memorial.

P.C. Labrie opened the scoring for the Crunch at the 9:11 mark of the first period with a shot from the left circle that eluded Whale netminder Cameron Talbot. Vlad Namestnikov and Brett Connolly assisted on Labrie's 11th goal of the season.

With less than five minutes left in the first period, Tyler Johnson's power-play goal extended the Crunch lead to 2-0. Ondrej Palat and Mark Barberio set up the goal with 0:24 left on Logan Pyett's holding penalty.

After a nearly scoreless second period, Johnson scored his league-leading 28th goal of the season to give the Crunch a 3-0 lead by firing a shot from the right circle with 1:44 left on the clock. The goal marked the second time of the afternoon Barberio and Palat assisted on a power-play goal by Johnson.

J.T. Wyman stretched the score to 4-0 at 7:34 of the third period with the lone tally of the frame. Palat skated the puck into the zone and passed to a cutting Wyman.

Crunchables: Tyler Johnson's first goal of the afternoon made him the first Crunch player to get 50 points on the season...With three assists tonight Ondrej Palat has had a multi-point effort in four of his last five games...After shutting out the Springfield Falcons on Feb. 23 and Whale today, the Crunch shut out back-to-back opponents for the second time this season...Desjardins has won all three of his starts since joining the Crunch.
