
Pirates Look to Right Ship in Return to Civic Center

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates return to the Cumberland County Civic Center for the first time in 22 days on Sunday when they face the Manchester Monarchs in VIP Parts, Tires & Service action. Puck drop is set for 4 pm for the 9th meeting in the VIP Cup series, which is currently tied at 4 games apiece. The Pirates sit in second in the Atlantic Division, 4 points back of Providence, while the Monarchs occupy 4th place with 53 points.
The Pirates are coming off a 4-1 defeat in Worcester on Saturday night at the DCU Center. Pirates rookie goaltender Mike Lee allowed 3 goals in the final 7 minutes of the first period, allowing Worcester to build a comfortable lead. Phil Lane scored the lone Pirates goal, and Louis Domingue made his AHL debut for the Pirates in relief of Lee, stopping 22 of 23 shots over the final 2 periods.
Manchester has won both their games this weekend, including a 3-2 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last night in Bridgeport. Jordan Weal, Colton Yellow Horn, and Tyler Toffoli had goals for the Monarchs, while Martin Jones made 35 saves on 37 shots for Manchester.
These two teams have not faced off in nearly a month, with the last contest taking place on January 26th at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Mike Lee made his first AHL start for the Pirates, stopping 31 of 32 shots to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 victory. Chris Summers, Chris Conner and Darian Dziurzynski had the goals for the Pirates. Tyler Toffoli, who has scored 9 goals against the Pirates this season, accounted for the lone Manchester tally.
