Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rosemont, Ill.- A suddenly streaking Rockford IceHogs slipped by the Chicago Wolves 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Allstate Arena. Henrik Karlsson made 23 saves and used two first period goals to lead the club to a season-high fifth straight victory.
After a bit of a sluggish start on Sunday, Rockford took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Brad Mills put the IceHogs out front early 1-0 when he cleaned up an Adam Clendening rebound that bounced off of Chicago's Matt Climie and sat on the Wolves goal line. The goal at 11:52 marked Mills' first with the IceHogs.
Late in the frame a power play strike extended Rockford's lead to a pair. A Jimmy Hayes' shot deflected to Martin St. Pierre who buried his team-leading 19th goal of the season into an open Wolves net at 19:29. The IceHogs have now tallied a power play goal in six straight games.
After a scoreless second period, the Hogs and Karlsson tried to preserve the club's second shutout of the week, but a rare penalty on Ben Smith put Chicago on a late power play. Darren Haydar ripped his 17th goal of the season with just 29-seconds left in regulation to make it 2-1.
Rockford hung on from there as Karlsson picked up his third win of the season while Climie was the tough luck loser after turning away 29 Rockford shots.
Next Home Game: Friday, March 1 vs. Peoria Rivermen. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. Rockford and Peoria meet for an eighth time this season. The first 1,500 fans to the game will pick up a Hogs Nation T-shirt courtesy of Anderson Toyota.
