Penguins Defeat Sound Tigers in Shootout, Sweep Weekend

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins swept their three-game weekend with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Webster Bank Arena.

After killing off the first power play of the night, the Sound Tigers went up, 1-0, when Jon Landry slipped a pass to Aaron Ness and he beat Brad Thiessen with a wrist shot over the shoulder at 4:14 of the first.

Tom Kostopoulos deflected home the game-tying goal at 4:13 of the second on a Joe Morrow wrist shot from the point. With his first marker of the season, Kostopoulos adds to his impressive resume, notching his 98th career goal and 250th regular season point with the Penguins - both all-time highs for the team.

Just before the end of regulation, the Sound Tigers would bring heavy pressure, but key stops by Thiessen helped sent the match past regulation and through overtime.

In the shootout, Chad Kolarik opened the scoring during the first opportunity for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but Jack Combs slid in a backhand shot in the third frame to tie things up for Bridgeport. After Riley Holzapfel converted in the bottom half of the fourth round, Thiessen stopped Brock Nelson's to bid to seal the victory.

Thiessen made 34 saves through overtime to win his third straight start and raise his record to 12-9-1 on the season.
