Crunch Announce 2010-11 Schedule Format

Syracuse, NY (July 13, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today their schedule format for the 2010-11 season.

The Crunch will continue to play in the now eight-team East Division, with the addition of the Charlotte Checkers.

The Crunch will play 48 games against their East Division opponents (Adirondack 8, Albany 8, Binghamton 8, Norfolk 8, Hershey 6, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 6, Charlotte 4). Syracuse also has six contests against the Atlantic Division (Bridgeport 2, Hartford 2 and Springfield 2).

In addition, the Crunch will face-off against North Division teams 20 times (Rochester 10, Hamilton 4, Toronto 4, Lake Erie 2) and West Division clubs six times (Houston 2, San Antonio 2, Texas 2).

The breakdown of the Crunch's 2010-11 schedule format is as follows:

The Crunch will begin their 2010-11 season with a home-and-home series against Lake Erie on Friday, October 8 at Quicken Loans Arena and Saturday, October 9 at the War Memorial at Oncenter. The Crunch and Monsters will be one of three home-and-home series' being played in the first week of the AHL's 75th anniversary season, with teams participating from the league's six senior-most cities. The complete 2010-11 American Hockey League schedule will be released later this summer.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 85 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the ninth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2009-10.
