Houston Aeros Name Brian Wiseman, Darryl Sydor Assistant Coaches

HOUSTON - The National Hockey League's (NHL) Minnesota Wild and the American Hockey League's (AHL) Houston Aeros today named Darryl Sydor and Brian Wiseman as the Aeros' Assistant Coaches. Sydor and Wiseman join Aeros Head Coach Mike Yeo in coaching the Wild's AHL prospects. Sydor spent 10 of his 18 NHL seasons playing for the Dallas Stars and has won a pair of Stanley Cups. Wiseman teamed with Yeo to help the Aeros win the International Hockey League's (IHL) Turner Cup in the 1998-99 season.
Sydor, 38 (5/13/72), retires after 18 NHL seasons and 1,291 games to join the Aeros coaching staff. Sydor spent the 2009-10 season playing with the St. Louis Blues. He had three separate stints with the Dallas Stars, and won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999, and Tampa Bay in 2004. The Edmonton, Alta., native accrued 507 points (98-409=507) with Los Angeles, Dallas, Columbus, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Sydor, an NHL All-Star in 1998 and 1999, was the Kings' first-round pick (No. 7 overall) in the 1990 Entry Draft.
Wiseman, 39 (7/13/71), was a collegiate star at Michigan, leading the Wolverines to a pair of Frozen Four appearances. He spent three seasons (1997-2000) with the Aeros, including an IHL Most Valuable Player campaign in 1998-99, when he racked up a league-leading 109 points (21-88=109) in 77 games. The Aeros won the Turner Cup, as Wiseman led the team with 13 assists in the playoffs. In 227 games with the Aeros, Wiseman totaled 260 points (62-198=260) before retiring due to concussion problems in 2000. The Chatham, Ont., native has served as an Assistant Coach with Princeton University, and was a video coach with the Dallas Stars for one season. His playing career also had stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, AHL St. John's and IHL Chicago.
