Binghamton Senators News Release
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2010) - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has signed forward Roman Wick to a one-year, two-way contract.
Wick, 24, recently completed his fourth consecutive season with the EHC Kloten Flyers of the Swiss A Division. In 37 games with Kloten in 2009-10, he recorded 15 goals, 16 assists and eight penalty minutes to rank fourth in team scoring. Wick has finished each of the past three seasons among the top four players in Flyers' scoring. He had his best season in 2008-09, registering 24 goals, 17 assists and 28 penalty minutes in 45 games.
Following his selection by the Senators in the fifth round (156th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the native of Zuzwil, Switzerland, spent the next two seasons in the Western Hockey League. Wick played 66 games with the Red Deer Rebels in 2004-05, contributing 70 points (32 goals, 38 assists) and 25 penalty minutes. He split the 2005-06 season between the Rebels and the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes. Wick recorded seven goals and 10 assists with Red Deer in 23 games, and 14 goals and 17 assists over 38 games with Lethbridge.
Wick's development occurred within Kloten's organization, playing four seasons in Switzerland's elite junior league. He was the league's top scorer during the 2001-02 (32 games, 19 goals, 27 assists) and 2002-03 (28 games, 29 goals, 22 assists) seasons.
Wick represented Switzerland in one world under-18 championship (2003), the world juniors (2005) and two senior events (2008 and 2009). In five games at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, he registered two goals, three assists and two penalty minutes. In Canada's 3-2 shootout win over Switzerland in the preliminary round, goaltender Martin Brodeur stopped Wick's shootout attempt.
