Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - A strong beginning to Thursday night's game didn't last for the Greenville Drive, as the Hickory Crawdads came away with a 5-2 win in the series finale in front of 5,309 fans at Fluor Field.
Ryan Fitzgerald continued his torrid stretch at the plate by belting a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first to plate Kervin Suarez, who led off with a double. The homer was Fitzgerald's seventh of the year.
The Crawdads (20-13, 50-51) answered with two runs in the second against Drive (18-15, 43-59) starter Enmanuel De Jesus (4-3) on a sacrifice fly by Yohel Pozo and an RBI single by Bubba Thompson.
Pozo struck again in the fourth by lifting a two-out solo homer to left field.
Two more runs in the fifth gave the Crawdads some insurance, as Preston Scott hit an RBI single and Tyreque Reed followed with a groundout to score another run.
A.J. Alexy (4-7) settled in after allowing the homer to Fitzgerald in the first, and he held the Drive to just those two runs over five innings with six strikeouts. Joe Kuzia worked two scoreless innings to record the save.
Fitzgerald went 3-4 with two RBI for the Drive, and he now sports a .344 average in the month of July.
Marcos Lantigua worked a pair of scoreless relief innings for Greenville, and Durbin Feltman struck out two in a perfect ninth.
The Battle of the Palmetto State presented by Spinx is on tap next, as the Drive travel to the Lowcountry for a three-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs, an affiliate of the New York Yankees. First pitch on Friday night is at 7:05. The pitching matchup will feature Drive left-hander Jhonathan Diaz (6-6, 3.69) against RiverDogs right-hander Janson Junk (4-2, 3.90).
