Craig Patrick to Play in Alumni Game in Wheeling

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League announce that Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager Craig Patrick will play in the alumni game Wednesday night. Patrick will play for the Penguins Alumni team.

Patrick is in his 14th season as General Manager of the Penguins. Under his guidance, the Penguins have won two Stanley Cups, five division titles and made 11 playoff appearances. Pittsburgh also posted the second best record in the NHL during the 1990's, second only to the Detroit Red Wings. Patrick has also been with his team longer than all but one current NHL general manager, Lou Lamoriello of the New Jersey Devils.

As player, Patrick spent most of eight seasons in the National Hockey League with the California Golden Seals, St. Louis Blues, Kansas City Scouts and Washington Capitals. He played in over 400 games and scored 163 points in his NHL career that ended in 1979.

After his playing career ended, he became assistant coach and assistant GM of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team that won a gold medal. Patrick's international hockey career continued as he served as GM for the 1991 U.S. team at the Canada Cup and was GM of the 2002 U.S. Olympic team that won a silver medal.

Before he became the GM of the Penguins, Patrick was the GM for the New York Rangers from 1981-1986. The Rangers made the playoffs in all five of his seasons with the organization.

Patrick and his Penguins Alumni teammates will play against a Wheeling Alumni team Wednesday at the Wheeling Civic Center. The game will begin at 7:00p.m. The Stanley Cup will be on display during the game for fans to have their picture taken with the trophy.
