Grrrowl Drop 4-1 Decision to Columbus as Playoff Race Tightens

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl's modest two-game winning streak ended with a 4-1 loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths in front of 4,006 at the BI-LO Center Tuesday night.

A powerplay goal from Caryle Lewis gave Columbus a 1-0 lead at 8:33 of the opening period. Andrew Long made it 2-0 when he recorded his 15th goal of the season at 7:34 of period two. With just :44 seconds remaining in the middle frame, MIKE HENDERSON beat Cottonmouths goaltender Mike Morrison from the slot and cut the Columbus lead in half, 2-1. The visitors held Greenville to just 7 third period shots, and goals from J.J. Hunter (8:36) and John Morlang (12:56) gave Columbus the 4-1 victory.

Jeff Zehr recorded 3 assists in a winning effort for the Cottonmouths, who won just their 7th road game (7-20-3) of the season. Columbus is now just 4 points behind Greenville for the 5th and final playoff spot in the Southeast Division with 12 games remaining.

DAMAIN RHODES faced 27 shots and suffered the loss for the Grrrowl, who were outshot 27-25.

The Grrrowl return to action Friday when they travel to the state capital to face the Columbia Inferno at 7:05 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
