SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls, in conjunction with Sharp Healthcare's "Sharp on Survival" program, are holding a special pre-game presentation for B.J. MacPherson on Saturday.

MacPherson, who led the Gulls to three Taylor Cup championships, had his career ended by a neck injury, suffered May 2001. Since then he has made almost a full recovery. Before the Gulls - Fresno Falcons game on Saturday, MacPherson will speak about his injury and, more importantly, his recovery.

The presentation is part of "Sharp on Survival's" message of providing critical information to help save lives and prevent devastating injuries. For more than 15 years, Sharp Healthcare has worked closely with many programs in an effort to educate people on the traumatic consequences of risk-taking behaviors.

MacPherson became a speaker for the "Sharp on Survival" team in December and is inspiring listeners with his determination, strength and motivation. His and Sharp's goal is to encourage perseverance and sportsmanship.

"This night will be the culmination of everything I've gone through over the last couple of years," MacPherson said. "My life has changed drastically. Now I hope my story can influence others. I want people to realize that nothing should ever be taken for granted."

San Diego's former great played five seasons with the Blue and Orange, before his devastating neck injury. During Game 4 of the 2001 Taylor Cup Finals, MacPherson dove for the puck and was struck in the head by an oncoming defenseman. He was paralyzed, but after only one month in the hospital, he was able to walk again (with the assistance of leg braces).

The presentation, which will also feature a video tribute to MacPherson's recovery, is scheduled to run approximately one hour. His speech will take place at center ice, starting at 5:45 p.m.

The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a MacPherson bobble head doll, courtesy of San Diego Fitness and Racquet Center.
