Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – For the second week in a row the West Coast Hockey League's Player of the Week is a Fresno Falcon. Captain Jason Weaver was announced today as the WCHL's Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24 – March 2, following on the heels of teammate Colin Embley, who won the award for his outstanding play the week before.

The Falcons captain recorded 10 points (3g-7a) in five games last week, including two power play goals and a short-handed goal, which was scored with Fresno skating at a two-man disadvantage. A one-goal, two-assist performance on Sunday in a 5-2 win at Idaho gave Weaver a career high 58 points (21g-37a) this season. He leads the league in points per game (1.38), but because of 15 games missed due to injury, he places 10th on the league scoring rolls.

In addition to Weaver, Kris Porter, Jordan Landry and goaltender Mark Gowan all received Honorable Mention recognition for their efforts last week. Porter, Fresno's leading scorer with 63 points (29g-34a), tallied nine points last week (5g-4a). He is ranked fourth in goals league-wide and notched his second hat trick of the year on March 1 in Idaho.

Landry picks-up the first league accolade of his professional career by having a break-out week on the scoreboard. He registered seven points (3g-4a), which included the first two-goal game of his career on Feb. 26 at Anchorage. Gowan played three games last week, with his most impressive effort coming Sunday. He made 36 saves, including 18 of 18 in the third period, to preserve Fresno's first win of the season at Idaho.

Fresno also signed rookie forward Ryan Kiley today. Kiley joins the club from the Cape Fear Fire Antz in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and registered 43 points (26g-17a) and 187 penalty minutes in 53 games. He played four years at Merrimack College where he was a teammate of Porter his freshman season.

The Falcons play the eighth game of an 11-game road trip tonight in Bakersfield against the Condors. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show.
