Coyotes reassing Gainey and Spiller to Rampage

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 14, 2006) - The San Antonio Rampage today announced that the Phoenix Coyotes, the Rampage's parent club, have reassigned left wing Steve Gainey and defenseman Matthew Spiller to the American Hockey League team. The Rampage also announced that they released defenseman Jason Beatty from his Professional Tryout Offer (PTO).

Gainey, 27, joins the Rampage after having played nine games with the Coyotes since being recalled Jan. 9. Completing his third call-up with the Coyotes, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound forward has registered one point (assist) in 20 games with Phoenix this season. The Montreal, Quebec native led the Rampage with 14 assists and 21 points in 28 games prior to his latest recall. The Dallas Stars' third-round choice (77th overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Gainey signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on Nov. 4, 2005 and has played in 33 NHL games (0-2=2 and 34 PIM) split between Phoenix and Dallas over parts of four seasons.

The 23-year-old Spiller played in four games with the Coyotes since his recall on Feb. 1. After two call-ups with Phoenix, the 6-foot-5, 233-pound blueliner has collected nine penalty minutes (PIM) in six games with the Coyotes. The Daysland, Alberta native has registered eight points (2g, 6a) and 98 PIM in 42 games with San Antonio this season. The Coyotes' second-round choice (31st overall) in the 2001 Entry Draft, Spiller has played in 57 NHL games and recorded 63 PIM's all with Phoenix in two seasons.

Beatty, 22, registered 2 PIM's in five games with the Rampage.

Gainey and Spiller will join the Rampage in Milwaukee, Wis. and will be able to play in tomorrow's game against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center at 7 p.m. CT. It will be the team's sixth game of a 10-game, 21-day and 5,971-mile road trip that began Feb. 3 in Rochester, N.Y. as the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo visits the AT&T Center.
