WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed defenseman Terry Virtue to a professional tryout contract, it was announced today by team CEO Jeff Barrett.

Virture, 35, signed with the Wheeling Nailers as a player-assistant coach on August 18, 2005, after spending the majority of his career in the American Hockey League. He has recorded 37 points, (6+31) and a plus-15 rating in 47 games with Wheeling this season, ranking fourth on the team in points, tied for second in assists and third in plus-minus.

The Scarborough, ON native has appeared in 850 games during his AHL career, recording 86 goals and 293 assists for 379 points with Cape Breton, Worcester, Providence, Hartford, Springfield and Utah.

A 15-year veteran, Virtue has also appeared in five National Hockey League games with the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers.

Virtue began his professional career with the Roanoke Valley Rebels (ECHL) in 1991-92, and saw stops in Louisville and Wheeling before moving up to the AHL with Cape Breton in 1993-94. He was a member of the Wheeling Thunderbirds team that advanced to the Riley Cup Championships in 1992-93.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins continue their nine-game road trip with games in Albany (Wednesday at 7:00pm), Lowell (Friday at 7:35pm), Springfield (Saturday at 7:05pm) and Providence (Sunday at 4:05pm) this week.
