Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators take on their toughest opponent of the season this weekend during the first annual Face Off Against Cancer. The event was designed to raise funds and awareness of the disease that takes the lives of five people on average each day in the Southern Tier according to the American Cancer Society.

The Face Off Against Cancer will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday Feb. 19 during the B-Sens games against Philadelphia and Syracuse, and will include a variety of fundraising activities including a paper airplane toss, an autographed puck sale, multiple jersey auctions, a fundraising skate and the Outback Steakhouse Midnight Snack.

It all gets underway on Saturday when the Philadelphia Phantoms visit the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena for a 7:05 p.m. game. Dave Martin and Tim Burnes, committee members of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, will drop the ceremonial opening face off puck to begin the weekend's events.

During first intermission of Saturday's game, fans can design and throw paper airplanes onto the ice in an attempt to land their airplane in the bed of a truck that will circle the rink. A winner will be randomly drawn from all of the airplanes in the truck bed and the winner will receive a prize package courtesy of the Chenango Ice Rink that will include a limousine ride to dinner for two at Applebee's and a night at the movies. Approximately 4,000 pieces of paper will be donated by Clear Channel Binghamton for the paper airplane toss and each will be sold for 25 cents. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Following Saturday's game, fans will be allowed onto the ice for a fundraising skate that will also benefit the American Cancer Society. Anyone who purchases a $10 armband will be allowed to skate on the Arena ice from the end of the game until midnight. At midnight, hungry skaters will be served a midnight snack in the Arena Club courtesy of Outback Steakhouse in Vestal. Fans must bring their own skates for the event.

Throughout the weekend, the Senators' wives, girlfriends and fiancées will sell game pucks autographed by the players with all proceeds going towards the Michael E. Connolly Endowment for Lung Cancer Research. The 700 pucks will be sold for $10 each. All of the pucks are signed by a player in silver ink and the pucks will be wrapped with a lung cancer awareness bracelet and candy. Each player also signed one puck in gold ink. The lucky fan who purchases the puck signed with gold ink will also receive an autographed photo of the player.

Finally, on both Saturday and Sunday, the Senators will hold a pair of jersey raffles. A team-signed B-Sens jersey will be raffled with all proceeds benefiting the Traci's Hope organization. Traci's Hope is a local organization dedicated to serving the needs of women and families affected by breast cancer.

Also being raffled will be Denis Hamel's game-worn 2006 Rbk AHL-All Star Classic jersey. All proceeds from the raffle of Hamel's jersey will benefit the Kelly O' Day Scholarship Fund.

Tickets for both raffles will cost $1 for one ticket, $2 for three tickets and $5 for 10 tickets. Winners of the jerseys will be determined by a drawing at the conclusion of Sunday's game.

Tickets for both games are still available at all Ticketmaster outlets and can be purchased by calling (607) 722-SENS.
