Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that center Jeff Taffe has been reassigned to the club by the Phoenix Coyotes. Taffe led the Falcons in scoring as a rookie last season with 49 points (23g, 26a) in 57 games with the team. The forward is expected to join the Falcons in time for the club's season-opening contest against the Providence Bruins in Rhode Island on Friday.

Taffe, 22, shared the Falcons' team lead in goals last season with right wing Frank Banham with 23. The Hastings, Minnesota native also registered three goals and an assist in 20 NHL games with the Coyotes and collected three assists in five playoff games with Springfield. Taffe was a first-round selection (30th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Phoenix along with forwards Michael Handzus, Ladislav Nagy, and a first-round draft choice in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft for left wing Keith Tkachuk on March 13, 2001.

Taffe helped lead the University of Minnesota (WCHA) to an NCAA Championship in 2002. He scored the game-winning goal in the Gophers' 3-2 semifinals win over the University of Michigan. Taffe ranked second in the nation in goals (34) and tied for the NCAA lead in power-play goals (14) during his senior campaign of 2001-02.

The Falcons will host the Albany River Rats in their 2003-04 home opener this Saturday at the Springfield Civic Center. Please call the Falcons' team office at (413) 739-3355 for information on individual game tickets and group discounts as well as flex pack and season ticket packages.
