Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (October 7, 2003) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned right wing Kent McDonell to Syracuse. Syracuse also announced that they have released center Marty Johnston from his professional try-out contract with Syracuse.

McDonell, 24, appeared in 72 games with Syracuse last season, recording 14 goals, 24 assists and 93 penalty minutes. The Williamstown, Ontario native also appeared in two games with Columbus, without recording a point. Originally Carolina's ninth choice, 225th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, McDonell was acquired by Columbus in an August 16, 2000 trade with Detroit for a sixth round draft choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The Crunch's home schedule begins with the Express Mart Opening Night on Saturday, October 11, when the Hershey Bears visit the War Memorial at Oncenter. The first 2,000 fans in attendance that night will receive a special edition 10th Anniversary pennant, compliments of Express Mart. Discounted coupons for tickets to the Express Mart Opening Night are available at any Express Mart location, which can be redeemed at the Oncenter Box Office.
