San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (October 24, 2007) - The Phoenix Coyotes assigned goaltender David Aebischer to the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, earlier today.
The 29-year-old that signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on July 19, 2007, will join the team in Chicago.
Aebischer, who's played the last six years in the National Hockey League, has appeared in one game for the Coyotes this season while splitting time with Mikael Tellqvist and Alex Auld.
The Fribourg, Switzerland native has collected a 106-74-12-5 record with a 2.52 goals against average (GAA), a .912 save percentage (SV%) and 13 shutouts in 214 NHL games in a seven-year span with Colorado, Montreal and Phoenix. He has also posted a 6-5 record with a 2.07 GAA and .922 SV% in 13 career playoff games that includes a Stanley Cup Championship in 2001 when he was the rookie backup to Hall-of-Fame goaltender Patrick Roy.
Originally drafted by Colorado in the 6th round (161st overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Aebischer posted a 46-33-8 record with a 3.00 GAA, a .908 SV% and three shutouts after backstopping 98 AHL games over a three-year span (1997-2000) with the Hershey Bears.
In a separate announcement, the San Antonio Rampage announced that the Coyotes have also assigned defenseman Freddy Meyer to the AHL club.
Meyer, 26, has played in five games for the Coyotes since being acquired by the team on Oct. 8. He has not figured in scoring. The Coyotes acquired the Wolfeboro, New Hampshire native by claiming him off waivers from the New York Islanders.
Meyer won a Calder Cup in 2005 with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms. In three seasons (2003-2006), Meyer has recorded 49 points (23 goals, 26 assists) and 143 penalty minutes in 129 AHL games (all with Philadelphia).
The Rampage begin a two-game series with the Chicago Wolves tonight at Allstate Arena. The game can be heard on the Rampage's flagship station KTKR "The Ticket" 760 AM and viewed through B2 Networks' live video web cast for $6 to anyone with a high-speed internet connection when clicking on www.sarampage.com.
