Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - Benoit Mondou had 1g-2a to help lead the Lowell Devils (3-3-0-0) to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Bridgeport Sound Tigers (3-3-0-0) Wednesday at Tsongas Arena.

Bridgeport got on the board first with a power play tally by Steve Regier at 3:19 of the opening frame. The goal came on an early 5-on-3 advantage for the Sound Tigers. They controlled much of the tempo in the first, holding the Devils to just five shots on goal in the period.

Early in the second the Sound Tigers took a 2-0 lead with another power play goal. Jamie Fraser made it 2-0 at 3:01. The Devils had a chance to get on the board midway through the frame when Noah Clarke was awarded a penalty shot, but G Joey MacDonald denied him the chance. Lowell did get on the board a few minutes later when Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre blasted home his first of the campaign at 12:09. Mondou picked up his first point of the night, winning the face off back to the point and collecting an assist.

The third period was all Lowell. Noah Clarke and Mondou both scored just 1:15 apart early in the period to thrust the Devils into the lead. For Clarke, it was his second of the season and for Mondou, it was his first in the AHL. Patrick Davis provided a 4-2 advantage with his first tally of the year at 11:41. Bridgeport closed the gap with their third goal of the night just seconds after Davis lit the lamp, but could not tie the game up. Lowell outshot the Sound Tigers 28-12 over the second and third periods en route to the win. Frank Doyle made 18 saves for his second victory.

The Devils travel to Manchester for a 7:05 p.m. start against the Monarchs Friday night. They return home Saturday for a special 2:05 p.m. matinee against the Providence Bruins. Everyone in attendance will have the chance to win a free Disney vacation, courtesy of Liberty Travel. Also, there will be a kid's costume contest during the game.
