Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - In front of 5,540 fans on Friday night, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (28-19) split a doubleheader with the Great Lakes Loons (17-30), falling in game one 4-0 but winning game two 4-2. Tommy Coyle doubled home two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in game two to help the Hot Rods break their season-high four-game losing streak.
Blanking the Hot Rods in game one, the Loons extended the Hot Rods scoreless innings streak at the plate to 16 innings. Starter Jharel Cotton was impressive in his six, shutout frames to earn the win. The only significant offense for the Hot Rods in game one secured by Marty Gantt, who had two hits including a double. Sean Bierman took the tough-luck loss, surrendering two runs in four innings.
Game two started out with the same misfortune for the Hot Rods as Dashenko Ricardo's two-out single in the top of the first inning gave the Loons a 2-0 lead. However, the Hot Rods answered back to score a run in each of their first two innings at the plate. Justin O'Conner and Leonardo Reginatto each drove in runs to tie the score.
The second game remained in a 2-2 tie until the bottom of the fourth inning. With two on and two outs, Coyle drove a double into the gap in left centerfield to clear the bases and give the Hot Rods a 4-2 lead. It was the first hit that Loons reliever Arismendy Ozoria allowed, coming to the final batter that he faced in his 2.1 relief innings.
Jordan Harrison settled down on the mound to impressively strike out seven in the spot start, and Marcus Jensen hurled 2.1 scoreless innings in the middle portion of the game to earn his fourth win of the season.
With the four-game series against Great Lakes behind them, the Hot Rods turn their attention towards a three-game set with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, beginning Saturday night at 7:05 PM. The Hot Rods will send RHP Eduar Quinonez (2-3, 6.15) to the mound, while the TinCaps will start RHP Walker Weickel (0-2, 5.46). Tune in to the game on 1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and online at 1340WBGN.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst and Chris Kleinhans-Schulz begins at 6:35 PM.
Saturday night is Military Night presented by Robinson Construction, Toot's, and Dairy Queen and also features Postgame Fireworks presented by WBKO. For more information and to secure your tickets, call the Hot Rods at (270) 901-2121 or visit BGHotRods.com.
