Burlington Bees News Release

Three Clinton Lumberkings pitchers combined to allow four hits in nine scoreless innings, as the Burlington Bees fell 6-0 in the series finale at Ashford University Field on Friday night.

One night after failing to convert with men in scoring position, the Bees (16-26) struggled to get any men on base. Dylan Unsworth (4-0) continued his hot start for the Lumberkings (24-22), throwing five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Blake Holovach and Jochi Ogando each delivered two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to secure the win.

Aaron Newcomb (1-2) entered Friday night's contest, having allowed four walks all season, but he struggled with his control in the third inning, allowing five runs to come across the plate. Brock Hebert was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Newcomb then walked both Jabari Henry and Dario Pizzano to load the bases with one out. Newcomb threw a wild pitch, which allowed Hebert to score and put two men in scoring position. Guillermo Pimentel singled home Henry and Patrick Kivlehan doubled home Pizzano. Newcomb was relieved by Robert Powell, who allowed a RBI single to Tyler Marlette and a sacrifice fly to Taylor Ard. The five runs given up by Newcomb were a season-high for the right-hander.

The Lumberkings scored one more run in the fourth against Powell, but after the fourth, both sides delivered goose eggs. Joey Krehbiel fired two scoreless innings, striking out three batters and Jairo Diaz struck out one in a scoreless eighth.

At the plate, Sherman Johnson led the way with two hits in his four at-bats. Both of Johnson's hits were infield singles. Three of the four Bees hits were infield singles, with the only hit out of the infield coming on a single by Jonathan Walsh.

Burlington will now head to Cedar Rapids to begin a three-game series, which begins on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Ryan Crowley will face Jose Berrios at Time Warner Cable Field. You can listen to the game at gobees.com or News Radio 1490 KBUR.
