LumberKings Twirl 4-Hit Shutout

Clinton, IA - Dylan Unsworth's returns to the mound went as expected; five shutout innings in a 6-0 LumberKings win over the Burlington Bees Friday night at Ashford University Field.

The South African improved to 4-0 with the win and lowered his ERA to 2.25 ERA. He did not walk a batter in five frames, extending his streak to 42 1/3 innings. Unsworth last walked a batter on April 14.

Clinton got the offense rolling in the third when Brock Hebert was hit in the shoulder by Burlington starter Aaron Newcomb. Jabari Henry and Dario Pizzano walked to load the bases for Guillermo Pimentel. With Pimentel up, Newcomb uncorked a wild pitch allowing Hebert to score. Pimentel then singled to right to drive in Henry and give the LumberKings a 2-0 lead.

Patrick Kivlehan followed with a run-scoring double and Tyler Marlette singled in Pimentel to up the lead to 4-0. The final run in the frame came on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Ard.

The lead jumped to 6-0 in the fourth as Tim Lopes singled in Hebert who led off the inning with a double.

Burlington's offense was kept at bay from first pitch to final pitch. Unsworth allowed two hits in his five frames. Blake Holovach was first out of the ‘pen and worked two scoreless innings. Jochi Ogando capped off the shut out with two scoreless frames of his own. The shut out is the fourth by Clinton since May 10.

The home stand continues for the LumberKings on Saturday as they welcome the Quad Cities River Bandits to town for a doubleheader. The two teams are tied for third in the Western Division with three weeks left to play in the first half. Clinton starts left-hander Tyler Pike (3-3, 2.37) in game one and right-hander Victor Sanchez (0-1, 3.04) in game two. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM CT.
