BOWLING GREEN, KY - Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark, the Great Lakes Loons and Bowling Green Hot Rods split a doubleheader with the Loons winning a shutout in the opener, 4-0, and the Hot Rods taking the second contest, 4-2. The Loons finish the four-game series in Southern Kentucky taking three of four.

Jharel Cotton was the story of Game 1, hurling six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five. Cotton (2-3) notched his second win. Scott Griggs worked the final frame, striking out three, to complete the shutout.

The Loons struck for a first inning run, successfully executing a play with runners at first and third with Tyler Ogle purposefully getting in a rundown to allow Jeremy Rathjen to score. Devin Shines singled home a run in the fourth. The Loons then scored two in the seventh on a Nick Sawyer wild pitch and a suicide squeeze bunt laid down by Malcolm Holland.

Sean Bierman (2-2) recorded the loss, allowing two runs in four innings.

In the second game, the Loons jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a broken-bat two-run single by Dashenko Ricardo in the first inning. But Bowling Green tied the score against Loons starter Zachary Bird with single runs in the first and second innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tommy Coyle doubled against Arismendy Ozoria to bring home two runs and give the Hot Rods the lead for good at 4-2. Ozoria (0-3) was credited with his third loss of the year. Marcus Jensen (4-1) threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for his fourth win.

The Loons (17-30) begin a three-game Memorial Day Weekend homestand against the Dayton Dragons (19-28) Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Carlos Frias (4-1, 1.54 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons against hard-throwing Dayton righty Robert Stephenson (3-3, 4.02). The game will feature a post-game Fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning. Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.

The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
