ECHL Kalamazoo Wings

Countdown To Face-Off

January 2, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Two members of the North Division galaxy will square off tonight, as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Toledo Walleye on Stars Wars Night. Kalamazoo is hoping the empire won't strike back, as the K-Wings defeated the Walleye 1-0 last night with a goal from Jeff Mason with 3.7 seconds remaining in regulation.

Without a win at home in their last four games (0-2-2-0), Kalamazoo looks to snap their longest home winless streak of the season. While it's not a return of the Jedi, the K-Wings will welcome the return of Rick Cleaver, who returns to Kalamazoo after a brief stint with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch.

After eight straight wins, the Walleye have suffered back-to-back losses. With 38 points, Toledo is tied with Kalamazoo for second place in the division and one point behind the Cincinnati Cyclones for first place. On the season, the Walleye are 2-0-0-0 at Wings Stadium.

Cleaver Returns

De-Nied

Goaltender Ryan Nie stopped 31 shots last night to earn his second shutout of the season. Nie, who now has 15 shutouts in his career, has nine of them in a K-Wings uniform.

K-Wings and Reign Make Trade

Late this afternoon, the K-Wings traded forward Sal Peralta to the Ontario Reign for defenseman Jon A. Landry. A three-year pro, Landry has played part of that last two seasons in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch and Rochester Americans.

Ending a Streak

Kalamazoo will hit the ice tonight looking to snap a four-game home winless streak (0-2-2-0). The four-game streak is the home winless drought for the K-Wings.
