South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that head coach Cail MacLean has been named the coach of the American Conference All-Star Team alongside Charlotte Checkers head coach Derek Wilkinson. MacLean joins Stingrays defenseman Zach Tarkir, forward Nikita Kashirsky and goaltenders Todd Ford and Braden Holtby for the 2010 ECHL All-Star game in Ontario, California on January 20.
"I am honored to be selected to go to the all-star game," MacLean said. "I am excited to go out to Ontario and see all the young talent the league has to offer as well as accompany our players who have worked very hard and deserve the honor."
MacLean, 33, is in his first season as head coach and director of hockey operations for South Carolina after working as an assistant coach for the Stingrays Kelly Cup champion team in 2008-09. The Middleton, NS native concluded his 11-year playing career with the Stingrays in 2007-08 when he led the team with 14 power-play goals while scoring 46 points (21g-25a) in 63 games. He played three seasons for the Stingrays and ranks in the Top 20 on the team career lists with 63 goals, 74 assists and 137 points while his 17 power-play goals in 2006-07 are the second-most in team history.
MacLean was a starter for the Northern Conference in the 2001 All-Star Game in Trenton, N.J. and also played in 1999 scoring the game-winning goal and earning an assist in the Southern Conference's 7-4 win at Biloxi, Miss.
