
Everblades down Gladiators 5-4

DULUTH, GA--The Florida Everblades traveled back to Georgia to battle with the Gwinnett Gladiators. The 'Blades opened the scoring with a goal from team captain Kevin Baker. Gwinnett came back 18 seconds later with a tally from Pat Galivan. Paul Healey closed out the first period with a power-play marker to put Florida 2-1. Florida added two more tallies from Colin Nicholson and Ross Carlson. Gwinnett's lone goal of the period was scored by Jason Lawrence. Gwinnett tied it up 4-4 in the third and forced the game into overtime. Neither team scored in overtime and the game was decided in a shootout.
The Everblades opened the scoring when Kevin Baker deflected Scott Hotham's shot to beat Gwinnett goaltender Danny Taylor. Eighteen seconds later Gwinnett's Pat Galivan added his fifteenth maker to tie the game. Florida pulled ahead when Paul Healey scored on the power play from line mates Bryan Leitch and Scott Hotham. Healey shot it high over Danny Taylor who had committed and dropped down.
Penalties characterized the second period.Colin Nicholson scored first 26 seconds in to make it 3-2. Then Everblades put their special teams to work and scored another power-play marker. This time the goal was credited to Ross Carlson with assists to Kevin Baker and Ernie Hartlieb. Jason Lawrence made it 4-2 off of former Everblade Aaron Brocklehurst and Matt Francis.
Gwinnett pulled within one in the third. Scott Marchesi beat Mike Morrison to make it 4-3. Tim Miller was issued two major penalties, one for fighting and another for boarding after he slammed Benn Olson into the boards from behind. Scott Hotham took exception and dropped the gloves. Hotham was given five minutes for fighting and two minutes for instigating. Jason Lawrence scored the equalizer at 15:39 to force an overtime.
With 2:22 remaining in the overtime session Matt Duffy was called for hooking setting Gwinnett on the power play. The Everblades held them off the board and with only 16 seconds left Gwinnett was called for slashing and the game was decided in a five round shootout. Paul Healey was the lone SO scorer and the Florida Everblades downed the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-4.
