Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Elmira Jackals Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Friday, March 14, 2003 7:30 PM

Game Preview Tonight will mark the fourth of six meetings between the K-Wings and the Jackals this season. Kalamazoo lost their lone appearance to Elmira here at Wings Stadium by the final of 5-0 back on January 8th. Tonight also starts the first of two straight games between the teams, with both games to be played here at Wings Stadium. It will also be the first of three games between the teams in a week span.

With 8 games remaining in the regular season tonight's playoff implications. The K-Wings enter the game in fifth place in the Western Conference with 60 points, 6 points behind the Flint Generals and 2 points behind Rockford for the final playoff spot in the UHL playoffs. While the Jackals haven't earned a playoff spot, their 79 points, which is 13 points ahead of Flint with 9 games to play seems to make the Jackals playoff hopes a lock. However, the battle for Elmira now becomes playoff positioning. If the season were to end tonight, the Jackals would have the third place in the Eastern Conference, however, with just 5 points separating the Jackals from the top spot in the conference, Elmira believes there is more than enough time to enter the post season as the top team from the east.

The K-Wings will be adding some new faces into the lineup tonight. Both Jarret Whidden and Lubos Velebny will be putting on the K-Wings jerseys for the first time. Whidden joins the K-Wings as a free agent after spending the past two seasons with Tacoma (WCHL). Velebny joins the K-Wings after starting the season in Quad City. Lubos was part of the trade that sent former K-Wing Michael Ford to the Mallards. Elmira will be losing five players for tonight's game. Brad Wingfield, Jeremy Symington, Jody Robinson, and Adam Borzecki are all on call-ups in the AHL, while defenseman Trevor Burgess is on team suspension.
