
Blades Earn Point in 6-5 Shootout Loss

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (32-19-12) were defeated by the Greenville Grrrowl (26-32-6) 6-5 in a shootout in front of 5,678 at TECO Arena on Friday night. Greenville forward Judd Medak notched two goals in the Grrrowl win. The Everblades slipped into sole possession of fourth place after suffering the shootout loss.
The Everblades struck fast and furiously and notched the first three goals of the game. Florida forward Laurent Meunier picked up a power play goal at the 6:27 mark of the first period. Everblades forward Kevin Brown then sent a weak backhand shot into the net to give the Everblades a 2-0 lead. Florida then took a 3-0 lead in the second period on a goal off the stick of recently reassigned forward Brent McDonald. The Grrrowl came back in the second period and scored three unanswered goals from forwards Mike Henderson, Matt Demarski and Judd Medak. The Everblades then grabbed a 4-3 lead in the second period after forward Brent McDonald one timed a Ryan Murphy pass past Grrrowl netminder Michael Garnett late in the second period. However, the Grrrowl came right back and tied the game at 4-4 on a goal from forward Judd Medak. Greenville then took a 5-4 lead on a power play goal from forward Martin Masa at the 18:16 mark of the second period.
In the third period the Blades tied the game at 5-5 with just :59 seconds to play in regulation on a goal off the stick of defenseman Kyle Kos.
After a scoreless overtime period, Greenville forwards Chris Lynch and Mike Henderson scored goals in the shootout period and the Everblades missed all four opportunities to give the Grrrowl the extra point in the standings.
Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (20-12-8) stopped 32 of 37 shots he faced while Greenville netminder Michael Garnett (14-14-2) stopped 48 of 53 shots he faced. The Everblades were 2 for 7 on the power play while the Grrrowl were 2 for 8.
The Blades take on the Greenville Grrrowl at TECO Arena on Saturday, March 15th. The game will begin at 7:38 PM due to the UPN-8 television broadcast.
