Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Missouri River Otters Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Sunday, March 2, 2003 4:00 PM
Game Preview Just like the last time the two teams played on February 21st, the K-Wings will be looking to match their longest winning streak of the season as they host the Missouri River Otters at Wings Stadium. In their past meeting, the K-Wings fell short as they lost in a shootout. Missouri's shootout victory snapped an eight game winless streak. This time around both teams with enter Wings Stadium on top of their games. While Missouri did lose last night to Quad City, which creates a first place tie between the Otters and the Mallards, Missouri still enters the game winners of 3 of their last 5 games. Kalamazoo has won two straight, including a 5-4-shootout victory over the other top team in the Western Conference the Quad City Mallards.
The playoff hunt is getting closer in the Western Conference. Kalamazoo is six points behind Flint and three points behind Rockford for the final playoff spot in the UHL playoffs. While Missouri's post-season hopes seem to be a lock, there is still a question on what seed the River Otters will be. Missouri enters play today in a first place tie with Quad City; however, they are just one point ahead of Muskegon, who starts the day in third place. With every team in UHL on the ice today, the River Otters could find themselves out of the top spot in the Western Conference.

Record Performance In the K-Wings game on Friday against the Quad City Mallards, the K-Wings set their franchise record most penalty minutes in a game. Kalamazoo registered 93 minutes in penalties. The 93 minutes surpassed the old record of 67 minutes the K-Wings registered against the Ashville Smoke on (10/22/99), when the K-Wings were the Madison Kodiaks. Five Alive With his assist in the K-Wings victory on Friday at Quad City, K-Wings defenseman Mark Vilneff extended his scoring streak to 5 games. In his past five games, Vilneff has scored 1 goal and has added 4 assists.
Alban Nears Two Milestones With his next appearance between the pipes, K-Wings goaltender Chad Alban will have played in his 200th career game. Also, with 97 career wins, Alban is just 3 wins away from 100 for his career. If recent history repeats itself, the Kalamazoo native should reach the 200 game plateau today, as Alban has started the past 28 games for the K-Wings.
Keyes Ends Drought With two goals against the Mallards on Friday, forward Richard Keyes put to bed a 15 game scoring drought. The K-Wings leading goal scorer, who now leads the team with 25 goals, hadn't scored a goal since January 11th, when he lit the lamp in the K-Wings 6-2 victory over Rockford. Keyes 3-point night against Quad City also ended a 4 game point drought for the forward. Richard scoring goals is usually a good sign for Kalamazoo. The K-Wings are 11-6-1 in games in which Keyes scores at least 1 goal.
