Bakersfield Condors News Release
Anchorage, Alaska â The Bakersfield Condors recorded a season-high eight goals, behind the strength of their power play en route to an 8-3 victory over the Anchorage Aces in front of 4,272 fans at the Sullivan Arena on Saturday.
The Condors opened the scoring with Jonas Lennartsson tallying his first goal of the season at 8:46 of the opening frame. Three goals were scored in the last three minutes of the period, including two by Bakersfield. Jason Jackman and Jeff Goldie scored just 1:17 apart to make it 3-0 Condors. Then, a turnover at the Bakersfield blue line led to an odd-man rush for the Aces, which Carl Drakensjo finished off with a one-timer blast past goalie Beau Fritz to make it 3-1 Condors after 20 minutes.
Bakersfield extended the lead with two early power play goals in the middle frame. Goldie redirected a slap shot home for his second of the night just 1:41 into the period. Less than two minutes later, Guy Dupuis fired a wrist shot from the slot straight to the top shelf for the 5-1 lead. All three of Dupuis' goals this season have come in the last five games. Drakensjo recorded his second goal of the game, sending a shot off the arm of Fritz and over the goal line to make it 5-2 after 40 minutes.
The power play extended the lead for Bakersfield in the third period. Jason Ralph netted his 24th of the season, slamming home a loose puck while perched in front of the Aces goal to make it 6-2. The Aces made it 6-3 with a power play goal at 8:04, but could get no closer. Jamie Cooke and J.J. Wrobel both scored in the remaining minutes to take the 8-3 lead. The eight goals was a season high for Bakersfield, while Fritz improved to 2-0 with the 20-save win.
