Kane County Cougars News Release
CLINTON, Iowa - Dan Straily pitched five solid innings, and Leonardo Gil and Max Stassi belted back-to-back homers Sunday afternoon as the Kane County Cougars beat the Clinton LumberKings, 6-3, at Alliant Energy Field. With the victory the Cougars claimed two out of three to win the series and conclude their six-game road trip.
Kent Walton and Gil each smashed an RBI double in the top of the first off Tyler Blandford (0-2) for a quick 2-0 lead. After the LumberKings scored a run in the third off Straily, Gil and Stassi connected for consecutive solo shots in the fifth to make it 5-1. Straily (2-0) left after five frames, allowing one run on two hits, walking three and fanning a season-high eight in the win. Ryan Quigley allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Cougars responded with a pair in the seventh on Anthony Aliotti's two-run single. Then Jose Guzman worked the seventh for his second save.
The two teams had been suspended by rain after three innings Saturday night, forcing them to resume that game Sunday before the originally-scheduled contest. Clinton won it, 3-1, as A.J. Huttenlocker (1-1) suffered the loss after he gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
The Cougars (8-10) are off Monday and start a three-game series at Elfstrom Stadium on Tuesday night at 6 CT against the Quad Cities River Bandits (14-4). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and at www.kccougars.com, with pregame coverage starting at 5:45 p.m.
The Cougars have won two of their six series this season.
Kent Walton went 6-for-11 in the Clinton series, and Leonardo Gil went 6-for-12.
The Cougars are 7-1 when they outhit their opponent.
